¶ Bert
Bert is an NPC residing in the upper-right corner of the Pumpkin Plaza, near the old entrance to the Woodlands zone. He frequently requests Wood, Stone, Axes, Honey, and Mushrooms for his deliveries. He is a Ticket delivery NPC, meaning he will reward you with the current Chapter Ticket, and will be unavailable for the final week of each Chapter.
Bert is the town's crazy old man, wearing tattered clothing and ranting about visions he's seen when consuming the Magic Mushrooms that grow on Bumpkin's farms. He may also have been a pirate at some point. As of Chapter 9: Winds of Change, he has taken to wearing a Crab Hat, making him somewhat easier to identify in the Codex.
He prefers all of the Lotus flowers in any color.

¶ Bert's Obsessions
Prior to Chapter 9, Bert had a unique mechanic known as his Obsession. Every 3 days, he would request a random item and ask to see it, but not take it from you, in exchange for Tickets. Most often these items were already available in the Marketplace from previous chapters, but some were from the current Chapter and weren't sellable yet, or could not be traded under normal circumstances.
An item being chosen for an Obsession would inevitably raise the price on the Marketplace dramatically, but by getting tickets for it, you would be unable to sell it until the next Obsession was chosen. This system was removed in May of 2025 in favor of the current Bounty Board.
